Deconstructing myths in the classroom

Teaching young people how to question their assumptions and the preconceived notions they have developed in pursuit of the truth is a complex task. This article written by a high school history teacher describes how she adapted a unit to explicitly address the myths her students had about Islam and help them clarify the truth. Use the article as an opportunity for reflection about how to engage students in this type of learning no matter the age or content area or use it as inspiration for your or your students’ lesson planning.
